Yes, it does seem a bit odd to buy one just to have one in your home. I am surprised that the Smithsonian didn't want the whole collection but maybe they already have a set of Presidents and First Ladies.
I had already seen the post on your blog. Meanwhile I remembered some designs of First Ladies that The Sampler Girl once designed. I have some of them in my stash and have to go and look for them. Better a stitched First Lady in your home than a shrunk wax First Lady, lol.
